Hair can break when the shaft is damaged, while shedding releases a hair from the follicle. You may need help telling the difference, and both can occur together.
What makes breakage a different question?
Damaged hair is fragile and can snap. Repeated heat, chemical processing, rough handling and styling practices may contribute. This is different from assuming that every loose piece of hair represents a follicle that has stopped growing. A close examination can help clarify what you are seeing.
Can I tell from the length of the loose hair?
Length is a useful detail to mention, but it is not a reliable diagnosis on its own. Describe whether you see short pieces, changes through the lengths, increased whole hairs or less density near the scalp. Bring existing photographs or explain what happens when washing and styling.
What routine details should I discuss?
Mention colouring, bleaching, relaxing, heat styling, extensions and how you detangle. There is no need to defend your routine. The purpose is to identify practical changes that you can maintain, rather than add a long list of products that makes caring for your hair harder.
Would a scalp procedure repair damaged lengths?
A procedure directed at the scalp is not the same as repairing already damaged hair along its length. Ask what part of the concern the service is intended to address. Cosmetic appearance, breakage prevention and follicle-related treatment are separate goals and should not be blurred together.
What is a useful first appointment?
If the concern is unexplained thinning or loss, seek medical assessment as appropriate. For questions about styling damage and care, explain the concern to Becky and ask which appointment is relevant. You should not need to book a growth treatment simply because you are unsure which term describes the change.
A conversation starts with you.
When you speak with us, start with your own experience: what looks or feels different, when you noticed it and what matters to you. Bring any medical advice you have already received. We can explain our services and their limits before you decide whether an appointment fits.
