WHAT IS IT?

What is LED red light scalp therapy?

This is a non-invasive appointment that directs red light at the scalp. The clinic lists a 10-minute individual session. Light-based research is often described as photobiomodulation: using defined light settings to influence biological activity.

THE SCIENCE, IN PLAIN ENGLISH

The research behind light-based hair care

Human research · specific light devices

Studies of specific light devices have reported improvements in hair measurements in pattern hair loss. Results depend on the equipment and course, so findings from other devices may not apply.

Changes in hair measurements with LED light

The study reported changes in hair density and diameter with both LED colours.

Hair-count gains with a mixed-light device

A particular mixed laser-and-LED helmet increased target-area hair counts more than sham.

Research in context

Human studies using specific light devices have reported improvements in hair measurements in people with pattern hair loss. The research below includes a mixed laser-and-LED helmet and an LED colour comparison. It offers useful context when discussing whether a light-based approach could fit your plan.

Benefits depend on the device, light settings and treatment schedule. The mixed-light trial cannot isolate an LED-only effect, and the LED colour comparison was small and did not describe a sham arm. Confirm the clinic equipment and proposed course; these studies do not establish the same result from a different device or a single session.

Red-versus-green LED comparison

Study context

Small active-colour comparison; no sham arm described in the abstract. It does not validate another LED device.

Study context

It used both lasers and LEDs. The study cannot isolate an LED-only effect or prove this clinic device matches.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Before your appointment.

What should I ask about the device?

Light-based hair treatments vary by device, wavelength and treatment schedule. Ask which device is used, what evidence supports its intended use and what a full course would involve.

Is there anything to discuss before booking?

Tell the practitioner about light sensitivity, relevant medicines and your health history. Ask about eye protection and any preparation or aftercare instructions.

What are realistic expectations?

An individual LED session does not guarantee new growth or improved density. The underlying cause of your concern matters, and a medical assessment may be the appropriate starting point.

A LITTLE CLARITY BEFORE YOU BOOK

A few things you may be wondering.

Open a question for the details. For advice about your own hair or scalp, speak with Becky.

Still deciding?Start with a conversation.
Is this the same as every red-light hair device?

No. Devices and treatment protocols differ, so claims about one device should not be assumed to apply to another.

Can I book this as my first visit?

Please arrange a consultation first so Becky can discuss whether it is an appropriate option for you.
