Symptom guide · An itchy scalp

Why does my scalp keep itching?

An itch that keeps coming back can be difficult to ignore, especially when a new shampoo has not answered the question. Tell us how your scalp feels, what you can see and anything that seems to change it.

A CLEAR STARTING POINT

Scalp itch can have different causes, including skin irritation and several skin conditions. Persistent, severe or recurring itching should be assessed before adding a cosmetic scalp treatment.

What else have you noticed?

Think about flakes, redness, swelling, sores, tenderness or a change after a new product. The scalp can itch without an obvious rash, so the absence of a visible change does not tell you the cause. Avoid repeatedly scratching while you investigate.

When is medical advice useful?

Seek advice if itching affects daily life, keeps returning or comes with a new skin change that worries you. A GP can assess the skin and decide whether treatment or further investigation is appropriate. New itching during pregnancy should be discussed with a GP or midwife.

Where does clinic scalp care fit?

Once medical concerns are addressed, Becky can discuss a gentle routine and explain the cosmetic services available. Tell the clinic about any sensitivities or active symptoms before booking. A cleansing or electrical scalp service should not be presented as a cure for an unexplained itch.

Is itching a sign that hair is growing?

Itch is not a reliable sign of new hair growth. It is a symptom to understand, particularly if it is persistent or uncomfortable.

Should I keep trying stronger products?

Repeated changes can make it harder to identify irritation. Ask a pharmacist or GP for help when symptoms continue rather than escalating products on your own.
