Dry skin and dandruff can look similar. If symptoms do not improve with appropriate care, or the scalp is painful, inflamed or visibly changing, seek a professional assessment.
Why can the two be difficult to tell apart?
Both may produce itch and flakes. Dry skin can follow loss of moisture or irritation from products, while dandruff is associated with a different scalp process. A photograph of flakes alone may not provide enough information to decide which is relevant.
Can weather and products make a difference?
They can be part of the picture. Some products may dry or irritate the scalp, and colder, less humid conditions can contribute to dryness. Describe what changed around the time symptoms began rather than assuming a single cause from the season or a product advertisement.
Is applying more oil always helpful?
No single product approach suits every cause of flaking or irritation. Before adding another layer of products, ask whether the scalp needs assessment and which routine is appropriate. Explain previous reactions and what you have already tried so the advice can be more focused.
What if the scalp has thick scale or patches?
Other scalp conditions may resemble dryness or dandruff. Persistent plaques, soreness, patches of hair loss or an inflamed scalp should not be treated as a routine moisture problem. Speak to your GP or a dermatologist and ask what should be addressed before a cosmetic appointment.
Can I enquire without knowing which condition I have?
Yes. Describe the symptoms in ordinary language and ask what a clinic consultation involves. You do not need to diagnose yourself to begin a conversation. A useful response should make the next step clearer, including when medical advice is needed before discussing the clinic’s cosmetic scalp services.
A conversation starts with you.
When you speak with us, start with your own experience: what looks or feels different, when you noticed it and what matters to you. Bring any medical advice you have already received. We can explain our services and their limits before you decide whether an appointment fits.
